National Center for Healthcare Informatics Mission Statement

 
Preamble:

The National Center for Health Care Informatics (NCHCI) is organized in the public interest as a Montana, not-for-profit Corporation, with concern for meeting the growing information technology challenges of the modern health care industry in America. With emphasis on rural health care, economic development, educational research and partnerships, technology development, and community development, the NCHCI will:

Mission:

Advance health care information technology research and development; provide an environment to support emerging business entities to foster the development of new and innovative health care solutions; provide manpower development solutions for the health care industry in concert with colleges, universities, and other educational institutions; provide a national and international reference and network center for professionals practicing in health care informatics; and develop resources to support the continuing education needs of health care professionals.

PURPOSE:

Research and Development: The NCHCI will solicit and administer regional and national grants to provide leadership in the development of new and innovative technologies for the health care sector. The NCHCI will promote and conduct applied research in concert with educational and health care institutions and will advance the commercialization of technologies emanating from subsidiary efforts.

PURPOSE:

Business Incubator: The NCHCI will provide support to encourage emerging business entities to foster the development of new and innovative solutions to existing and future health care problems. The NCHCI will provide resources to better understand and assist in solving problems within local, regional, and national health care settings. The NCHCI will also provide a platform for the outsourcing of services required by the health care industry, with a special emphasis on rural health care.

PURPOSE:

Manpower Development: The NCHCI will provide unique health care training venues in conjunction with established college and university programs. These venues will be designed to better prepare graduates to cope with the unique challenges of the new century of medicine, with a particular emphasis being placed on rural health care.

PURPOSE:

Reference and Networking: The NCHCI will provide a national reference and network center to serve health care professionals practicing in the areas of health care informatics in the U.S. The NCHCI will inform and educate the public sector about emerging technology development, demonstration, and innovation.

PURPOSE:

Continuing Education: The NCHCI will promote joint NCHCI/University efforts to develop a wide variety of resources, products, and programs to support the continuing education needs of health care professionals practicing in a wide variety of health care professions.
