About Us
In February 2010, a group of women invited me to a meeting about organizing charitable mountain bike races. During that gathering their passion for biking touched me deeply. By the end of the evening, I felt motivated to jump on my bike, experience their passion for riding and join them in changing lives in Sierra Leone.
Bike without Borders is a group of of women mountain bike riders who have ridden together for several years and would like to share their passion for the sport with you. But they are taking their pedaling one step further. They believe that riding adds value to their lives in many ways from providing health benefits, to creating social networks, and personal enrichment. Similarly they want to empower pregnant women and their families in Sierra Leone.
The purpose of this event is to raise some funds for a worthy cause, teach new or intermediate riders some proven techniques, and most importantly have fun.
I would like you to meet these women:
Tammy: wife, mother of 2 beautiful daughters, RN in medical sales, rides mountain and road bikes, favorite ride -The Continental Divide Trail.
Mary: wife, mother of 2 beautiful daughters, RN, rides mountain and road bikes, marathon runner, favorite ride - the Beaver Ponds.
Sharon: wife, mother of 2 beautiful daughters, MD, rides mountain and road bikes, favorite ride: The Continental Divide Trail.
As you can see they have much in common.
As for me, my name is Dorothy, I am a wife, mother of a son, an accountant, and I’m into Yoga. But the cool thing is that I am Tammy’s sister and it is great to help your sister realize her dreams. Perhaps it’s even better when you share a dream.
Thankfully, over time others have joined the group to help with this event. We welcome: Ed and Susan Renfro from Bad Beaver Bike Shop, Mary and George Mulcaire-Jones from Maternal Life International, and Furhana Afrid, a backpack journalist from Kenya. Without their help this event would not be possible. Thanks to everyone!!
Our fundraising goal is $10,000. In conjunction with Maternal Life International, 100% of the proceeds will fund our Sierra-Leone program. And with your support we can bring life saving health care to pregnant women in Sierra-Leone and break the cycle of death. Please click "The Cause" tab to find out more.
Make plans to attend August 6 & 7. This is our first year and we have an exhilarating event planned. Our mission is to make this even an annual fundraiser.
